SIGN MATERIAL GUIDE

Aluminium
Reflective Aluminium signs are made of 3M Schotchlite reflective sheeting Class 1 or Class 2 and an aluminium base 1.6mm thick  for Traffic, Parking and Mining Signs.  Should be used for any application where resistance to corrosion and strength are a necessity. All aluminium signs come with rounded corners and holes for post mounting.

ColorBond Steel (Metal)
Guaranteed to withstand temperatures of -40 to 80C and have an outdoor life of 5-7years.  The steel material holds up well in windy conditions and is well suited to outdoors. All metal signs come with rounded corners and four corner mounting holes.

Polypropylene
Polypropylene is UV stable and resistant to fading and cracking outdoors for  3 - 5 years, and will not chip or break if dropped.  It is non toxic and food contact approved  it is also 100% recyclable and is an environmentally responsible alternative to PVC.  Withstands  temperatures of -40 to 160 C. Signs come with rounded corners and four corner mounting holes.  Recommended for indoor or outdoor use.

Corflute
Corflute can be used  indoors or outdoors, especially for temporary applications, manufactured from  3mm corrugated plastic, a lightweight, low cost and durable product used extensively in the construction industry.

Self Adhesive Vinyl
We offer either standard or premium for our non-reflective vinyl products. Both are considered to be excellent choices for indoor or outdoor applications.
• The Premium vinyl is 2mm thick and has a life expectancy of 5-8 years.
• The Standard vinyl is 2mm thick and has a life expectancy of 3-5 years
(note : this is only a rating and should not be mistaken for a warranty)

These are specifications from the manufacturer and under normal conditions, the material should not peel, crack, delaminate, or fade for the period of time listed.

Vinyl features a fully self-adhesive backing so you can adhere it to virtually any clean, dry surface. Just peel off the release paper and quickly apply.

INSTALLING A SIGN

There are several methods from which to choose depending on the type of sign to be
installed.

1. Drill holes and mount to the side of a building or fence.
2. Mount the sign to a wall or door using double-sided tape.
3. Mount the sign using a sign stand.
4. Mount the sign using a post & bracket.  For traffic signs or those to be installed in pedestrian traffic
areas the post must be 2.4m high out of the ground.
5. Mount the sign to a window using suction cups.

A GUIDE FOR DESIGN

1. Choose colours that will not blend. While red on black is not a very readable choice, if that is what you want, fine.  By choosing tone-on-tone variations you are sacrificing readability.   In most cases the further away you can read your sign/advertisement the better.  Some good colour selections are yellow with black, yellow with green, white with any dark colour (ie blue with white, red with white etc.) The key is to choose colours that sharply contrast each other so as to leap off the design.  If you are still set on using dark combinations, like red on black, consider outlining the edge of your letters in white.  This technique allows for separation between the colours and will attract your audience’s attention.

2. Choose a shape that fits your designs intended concept.  For example, if you are designing a sign with long rows of text, then opt for a long rectangular sign to accommodate your lettering.  Do not attempt to squeeze it all in on a square sign. Doing so will force you to use smaller letters and will result in a lot of wasted space.  The same rule of thumb applies if your intended design requires several short rows of text, one on top of the other.  In this instance, opt for a sign shaped to fit your lettering.

3. Do not get carried away with information overload.  Give your audience only the details they need and no more.  The more you try to squeeze into your design, the more it will detract from the signs effectiveness. General rule of thumb, if it needs to be said say it if not, leave it off.

4. Fill as much of the sign area as possible.  This doesn’t mean you should get carried away and start adding text or graphics to every square inch of the design.  Fill as much of the space in with your text as you can remember, capital letters can be read from a further distance than lower case.  The rest of the sign can be make it as appealing as possible.

5. Graphics, colours, borders, shadows, etc., all add interest to your design.  Try some of these  techniques to enhance your design.  We are capable of creating these enhancements if you want to incorporate them into your design.

6. Alignment is very important in a designs overall visual appeal.  If your sign is meant to be aligned (centred, to the left or to the right) make sure that it is, otherwise your design could look amateurish.

7. For inspiration, with your design search for designs you like for ideas, or feel free to contact our customer service for assistance at info@hylyte.com.au they will be happy to help.

BANNERS

Banners come in light weight or heavy duty and both materials are welded or hemmed and grommeted every 500mm with ropes unless otherwise specified. You can either mount your banner directly to a wall using screws and washers, or you can run the rope through the grommets and attach to 2 poles or trees.  If you are in an extremely windy area, be sure to secure the banner well.

Our banners are manufactured using 2 methods.
1. We add the text and graphics to the banner using a high quality vinyl decal.  This will delay the time it
takes for the banner to fade.
2. We actually print the text and graphics to the banner.  This method allows
us freedom to create full colour banners.

Care & Storage of your  Banner
As most banners are used seasonally or periodically, when you take down the banner, give it a light clean, allow to dry and roll up making sure that the banner is not creased or folded and store in a cool and dry place.

Warranty
All of our banners carry a 1-year warranty against fading or discolouration.  Since wind, installation and other elements beyond our control can have a drastic effect on how long banners will last without tearing, we do not offer any warranty against tearing or other physical damage to our banners.
Under no circumstances will Hylyte be liable for any loss, damage, expense, or consequential damage of any kind arising in connection with the use, or inability to use Hylyte signs or products.
